How can you pass on something wonderful?

Today kicks off the 9th annual “Remember A Charity Week” (10-16 September). We’ve joined 200 other charities across the country to celebrate all the amazing individuals who have chosen to support the vital services we provide by leaving a gift to charity in their Will.

Currently, only around 6% of us leave a gift to charity in our Wills. But even this has a major impact, raising an impressive £2.4 billion a year – that’s the equivalent of around 38 Comic Relief appeals. Without these gifts, many charities wouldn’t be able to carry out their vital work in their communities and internationally. That’s why it is crucial to raise awareness of the importance of legacy donations and encourage others to do so.

The theme for this year’s Remember a Charity week is “pass on something wonderful” and an innovative charity-powered search engine called Human has been created to bring it to life.

Through the Human search engine, people can ask some of life’s biggest questions such as: ‘How can we create an equal society for disabled people?’ and see video responses showing how charities address these issues and how the public can pass on something wonderful, by leaving a gift in their Will. See what disability activists, including ADD International ambassadors, have answered about the most pressing questions about the future of disability rights.

We know that when the time comes to write your own Will, people want to make sure their family and friends are looked after. But if there is any room for charity, then a gift of any size can make a huge difference to the cause you care about.
