Safeguarding in recruitment.

The nature of ADD’s work is as an ally to the global disability movement promoting the rights of all people with disabilities. It does mean that our staff, consultants, trustees and volunteers may come into contact with children and vulnerable adults in some capacity or another. ADD is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff, consultants, trustees and volunteers to share this commitment.

At ADD, we’re committed to creating a safe and rewarding environment for all of our people to work and volunteer, as well as for those we come into contact with through our work.

This means we have robust safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure everyone is treated properly, and a whistle-blowing policy and process so people can raise any concerns they have, confidentially.

Some of our staff, trustees, volunteers or consultants carry out roles that require them to work with people who are considered to be at higher risk of harm, including children and vulnerable adults. We carry out appropriate background checks for all staff, trustees, consultants or volunteers (including obtaining references, checking qualifications and right to work checks). For those who may come into direct contact with children or vulnerable adults, or with sensitive and personal data and images, or who have overall responsibility for safeguarding, we carry out appropriate criminal record checks. It is a condition of employment at ADD that we receive satisfactory checks prior to employment starting. A criminal record is not necessarily a bar from employment with ADD but we ask that you are open and honest during the recruitment process and decisions are taken on a case by case basis.

All trustees, staff, volunteers, consultants, partners, and others who may work for, or with, ADD are expected to familiarise themselves, and comply with, our safeguarding policies. We have a zero-tolerance approach to breaches of our safeguarding policies and thoroughly investigate all alleged breaches. For more information on safeguarding at ADD please see the safeguarding page of our website.
