In 2009, 88p of every £1 donated was used to support the disability movements in Africa and Asia. The remaining 12p was spent on fundraising, governance, administration, audit and statutory compliance.
In 2009, the effects of the recession continued to have a noticeable impact on ADD International’s income. Raising funds through grants proved more difficult and competitive than in previous years. We also experience a downward trend in donations from the public, mainly attributable to a combination of the effects of the economic downturn and the need for greater investment in fundraising.
The total income available in 2009 was £4.118m
The total raised through public fundraising and other non-grant income was £1.202m, a decrease of £78,451 from 2008.
The total grant income from governments, institutions and trusts available in 2009 was £2.916m, including:
£1.025 from the Department for International Development (DFID)
DFID have supported disabled people in Africa and Asia through ADD for many years. Currently ADD has a Partnership Programme Arrangement (PPA) with DFID which is unrestricted funding to be used where it is most needed in accordance with ADD's organisational priorities. The current PPA (2008 – 2011) is for £3,030,000 and follows on from an original PPA agreed in April 2002.
£824,449 from the Commission for the European Union Communities (CEC)
In 2009, the CEC funded separate/specific contracts for work in Bangladesh, Cambodia and Zambia. This year, the CEC is funding work in Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire.
£600,000 from Comic Relief
Comic Relief have funded ADD since the mid 1980s and currently support ADD’s work in Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Sudan through a five year strategic grant of £600,000 a year to make poverty reduction inclusive which ends this year.
Total expenditure in 2009 was £3.481m, a 10.7% reduction from 2008. In relation to our main charitable activities £3.073m of total expenditure (88%) was spent on supporting the international Disability Movement directly through our eight programme offices and indirectly through the UK office.
