Due to the civil war ADD International suspended its work in Côte d’Ivoire in December 2002, but thanks to the EU and The Breadsticks Foundation, work will resume in 2010.  Whilst there are no statistics that demonstrate the impact that the civil war has had on the lives of disabled people, or how many people have become disabled as a result of the war, we know that  disabled people living in Côte d’Ivoire face extreme hardships.

In order for disabled people to rebuild their lives and live independently, they need  equal access to everyday services.  ADD will support disabled people to build and strengthen their representative organisations in order to lobby local authorities, service providers and international aid agencies and make sure that the needs of disabled people aren't ignored.

A strong disability movement will provide a united front which can successfully influence local government and service providers to make  reasonable accommodations, giving disabled people equal access to healthcare, education and employment.
